Erica and Nick were attracted to the idea of a natural childbirth in water. While a number of hospitals and birth centers in the Chicago area have tubs for labor, only a few — including The Birck Family Birth Center at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital — allow women to actually deliver their babies in water. Even though Erica and Nick live in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago, about 50 minutes away from Hinsdale, they decided that the hike was worth it in order to have the option of a water birth. Photos: Maggie Cuprisin Photography.
