MORE ABOUT US
Lactation Services

Initial lactation visit

Your initial lactation visit includes a comprehensive feeding assessment of both parent and baby, integrating Rose’s expertise in occupational therapy and lactation to address positioning, latch, milk production and intake, and the feeding relationship as whole. A screening of the baby’s overall functioning including physical development, oral skills, and state regulation is always included and informs the feeding plan and individualized recommendations. For most families, lactation visits which include education, guidance, and continued support, are often all that’s needed to help meet feeding goals.

When a baby has more complex needs – such as oral motor challenges, strong refusals or aversions, body tension, or developmental differences – occupational therapy intervention may be beneficial. Alongside individualized lactation support, Rose can offer and provide OT services directly to Baby to support feeding and development.

Assessment

During an infant feeding and lactation assessment, we take a complete personal and medical history of both you and your baby, carefully evaluating how feeding is going and considering the many factors that can influence it. We observe a full feeding session and make a thorough assessment, performing a weighted feed if necessary. From there, we provide personalized, practical recommendations to ensure you feel fully supported and truly heard. This is available in-person or via telehealth.  90 mins

Follow Up

Once you are an established client, you are able to schedule a follow up appointment at any point during your lactation journey, to address any additional needs that may pop up. For example: returning to work, pumping, starting solids. 60 min

Common Issues Addressed:

  • Painful latch
  • How to know if your baby is getting enough milk
  • Establishing milk supply
  • Introducing bottles
  • Pumping
  • Returning to work
  • Starting solids

Virtual or in-person

We offer both in-person and virtual appointments to provide flexibility and meet your needs. In-person appointments are held in the comfort of your own home, and we travel up to 30 mins from Niles, IL.

If you’re unsure which type of appointment is best for your situation or if I travel to your city, please contact me, and I’m happy to guide you in making the best choice for your care.

About

After having my son in 2021, during the pandemic, I faced my own struggles with postpartum depression and anxiety. It didn’t help that the grief of losing my mom was bubbling over. When my son was just 13 weeks old, I reached a breaking point, and my aunt came to my rescue. She didn’t do anything complicated—she just mothered me. I held my baby, and she held me, helping me foster a sense of self-confidence and newfound identity as a parent.

At Rose Duffy Lactation PLLC, we want to help you foster your self efficacy as a parent. Just like my aunt did for me, sometimes it takes someone to hold space for you—so you can find your strength, your confidence, and your own way forward.

In terms of clinical experience, I have over ten years working as an occupational therapist (OT). My experience as an OT included supporting adults who had complex medical conditions – whether that be physical or mental in nature. I spent many of those client interactions with those living with terminal illness or nearing end-of-life. Currently I am a pediatric OT, picking up clients through the Early Intervention Program in Illinois.

I believe birth and death are two sides of the same coin. This unique background allows me to bring a deep compassion and trauma-informed approach to the perinatal world, supporting new families through complex emotions, grief, and major life transitions.
