Postpartum Chiropractic Care
Specific physical benefits of enhancing neurological balance and function through chiropractic during pregnancy can include:
- Improving the condition of and having a greater degree of control over the pelvic floor muscles and potentially decreasing the risk of future stress urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence and vaginal prolapse.
- Relieving joint pain (especially in the low back),
- increasing energy levels, sleep quality,
- increasing milk production, experiencing more comfort while breastfeeding, and
- reducing the incidence of postpartum depression.
NEWBORN Chiropractic
The moments after birth are powerful, full of transition, adaptation, and profound neurological change. All birth experiences, even physiologic birth, places significant forces on a baby’s spine, cranium, and nervous system. These early patterns can influence feeding, sleep, comfort, digestion, reflex integration, and overall development.
Families often seek immediate postpartum care to support:
- A smoother transition from womb to world
- Cranial molding patterns
- Signs of tension or discomfort
- Head-turning preferences or early asymmetries
- Breastfeeding and latch challenges
- Digestive difficulty or irritability
Your Newborn’s Assessment may include:
- Cranial and spinal evaluation
- Primitive reflex and neuro-developmental screening
- Assessment of head shape and molding patterns
- Evaluation of jaw, palate, and suck function
- Observation of tone, symmetry, and movement
- Insight into how birth experiences may have influenced alignment or tension
Baby’s First Adjustment
Once the assessment is complete, your baby will receive their first adjustment tailored to their specific needs.
These adjustments use:
- Gentle sustained contacts
Light pressure (no more than you would use to check a ripe tomato) - Slow, supportive release techniques
- Subtle cranial and soft tissue work
The goal is simple: reduce tension, restore balance, and support the developing nervous system.
Dr. Raya Williams
Dr. Raya Williams
Dr. Raya was born in Chicago and grew up in several communities across Illinois, always carrying a deep curiosity about how the body works and heals. As a child, she dreamed of becoming a pediatrician, and her years as an athlete in track & field, cross country, and tennis strengthened her appreciation for movement and the innate wisdom of the human body.
She began her education on a pre-physical therapy track before graduating with a Communication and Digital Media degree from Northern Illinois University. Dr. Raya completed 200 hours of yoga teacher training and additional specialized training in yoga for pre-conception, yoga for labor and birth, and yoga for postpartum.
These experiences naturally shifted her into supporting families as a birth and postpartum doula before falling in love with home birth. She decided to pursue traditional midwifery, apprenticing under three experienced Certified Professional Midwives and completing extensive clinical training in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care.
She decided to continue her education at Palmer College of Chiropractic, where she fell in love with the philosophy of chiropractic and the art of the adjustment, recognizing its unique ability to support healing from within. The profound impact of nervous-system–centered chiropractic care became the bridge between her love for birthwork and her commitment to generational health.
Dr. Raya is a Webster-certified chiropractor with extensive training in prenatal, pediatric, and perinatal care. She believes that when parents are supported with compassion and education, families and futures grow stronger. She is currently studying to complete her (CACCP) certification with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA).
Above all, Dr. Raya’s faith and family hold a sacred place in her heart. When she’s away from the practice, she loves reading, journaling, traveling and dreaming up new ways to support families.
She cannot wait to serve you and your family at Profound Chiropractic.
