Your Advocate for a Positive Birth Experience

Choosing a birth doula can make a world of difference in your labor and delivery. Our comprehensive package offers everything pregnant people and their partners need to feel supported , empowered, and prepared for the birth of their baby, feeding their baby, and preparing for bringing their baby home. Here’s what’s included:

  • A labor/birth support doula of your choosing (value $1200 – 1500)
  • A 5-week or Weekend Intensive Childbirth Class (value $350)
  • A Breastfeeding Workshop (value $150)
  • A Becoming Parents Workshop (value $150) or
  • The First 6 Weeks Home Workshop (value: $150)
  • An in-home location visit by one of our lactation consultants (value: $125)
  • Ongoing support from Rebecca and Sue at Family Picnic

Our doulas are here to support you every step of the way, ensuring you feel confident and empowered throughout your birth journey.

Choosing Your Doula

We have ten highly qualified birth doulas to choose from, who range in experience, training, philosophy, and certifications. It is most important to us that you find a doula that fits with you and your partner’s vision for your labor and birth and whom you feel comfortable with. You will have the option to choose between:

  • A very experienced doula (attended over 100 births in a variety of settings with a variety of birth plans and clients) or
  • An experienced doula (a newer doula with less than 100 births)

Cost Structure For Birth Doula Package

Depending on which doula you choose, we have two cost structures:

‘A Very experienced doula’ – $2500
‘An experienced doula’ – $2000

*both packages would include all of the above classes/services provided by Family Picnic

TRAINING & CERTIFICATIONS

Sue Gottschall

Suehas a Master’s Degree in Education with a focus on conception through the early childhood years.  She is a Certified Lactation Consultant and Childbirth Educator as well as a Birth and Postpartum Doula.  Throughout her career Sue has worked with children and families, supporting emotional development, literacy and literature for the very young, and learning through play.  Previously, she taught Child Development at UIC and City Colleges and was Director of Hug-a-Book, an early literacy organization, and Chicago Volunteer Doulas.   Sue is delighted to now be concentrating on the earliest periods of development and helping families determine what the right choices are for them.  Sue and her daughter, Rebecca Nguyen, have long dreamed of starting an early childhood organization together. They hope that Picnic: A Gathering Spot for Families with Young Children will offer support to families for many years.

Rebecca holds a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.  Before having her own two children, she taught preschool through 3rd grade for ten years becoming a Master Teacher, supporting other teachers in reading strategies and using high quality children’s literature.  With the birth of her children, Rebecca became interested in the earliest period of development, becoming a Certified Lactation Consultant and Childbirth Educator.  Rebecca and her mother, Sue Gottschall had long dreamed of starting an early childhood organization together.  Combining their skills to open Picnic: A Gathering Spot for Young Families is the culmination of this dream.  It will offer Rebecca opportunities to teach new parents about childbirth and breastfeeding and provide many opportunities for her to support parents as their children grow and learn.  She is excited and enthusiastic about the possibilities.
