DR. RAYA HAS EXTENSIVE TRAINING IN CARING FOR PREGNANT WOMEN.

Pregnancy is an incredible, yet sometimes challenging, season of life. Our goal at Profound Chiropractic is to empower mothers throughout this process so both mom and baby can thrive. We’re honored to support you through the entire journey, from prenatal to postpartum.

In order to experience healthy pregnancy and positive birth experience, mothers need to be feeling and functioning at their best, with a clear and uninterrupted nervous system. One of the worst things in the world is emotional trauma and thoughts. If a mother-to-be is emotionally stressed, it will affect her baby neurologically. The umbilical cord is not just for nutrients but is the neuro-emotional power cord to the baby. Experiencing stress due to fear, anxiety and the unknown thrown on a mother by the world or medical doctor, or due to a lack of emotional support, empowerment and education, the child’s autonomic nervous system only knows sympathetic dominance in return as it develops. Your sympathetic nervous system is what runs your “fight-or-flight” response and being “stuck” in that state has a lot of detriment to bodily function and the way we react to and process the world physically and emotionally.

In our office, prenatal chiropractic is about neurological empowerment, care and education in addition to physiological function and symptom relief. Our goal is to help you move through this season with clarity, confidence, and a more regulated nervous system.

Specific physical benefits of enhancing neurological balance and function through chiropractic during pregnancy can include:

  • Improving the condition of and having a greater degree of control over the pelvic floor muscles and potentially decreasing the risk of future stress urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence and vaginal prolapse.
  • Relieving joint pain (especially in the low back), reducing birthing times and labor pain, helping to prevent dystocia, allowing for decreased rates of potential cesarean birth and induction, reducing symptoms like nausea and heartburn, increasing energy levels, sleep quality, & maintaining a healthier pregnancy.

TRAINING & CERTIFICATIONS
Dr. Raya Williams

Dr. Raya was born in Chicago and grew up in several communities across Illinois, always carrying a deep curiosity about how the body works and heals. As a child, she dreamed of becoming a pediatrician, and her years as an athlete in track & field, cross country, and tennis strengthened her appreciation for movement and the innate wisdom of the human body.

She began her education on a pre-physical therapy track before graduating with a Communication and Digital Media degree from Northern Illinois University. Dr. Raya completed 200 hours of yoga teacher training and additional specialized training in yoga for pre-conception, yoga for labor and birth, and yoga for postpartum.

These experiences naturally shifted her into supporting families as a birth and postpartum doula before falling in love with home birth. She decided to pursue traditional midwifery, apprenticing under three experienced Certified Professional Midwives and completing extensive clinical training in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care.

She decided to continue her education at Palmer College of Chiropractic, where she fell in love with the philosophy of chiropractic and the art of the adjustment, recognizing its unique ability to support healing from within. The profound impact of nervous-system–centered chiropractic care became the bridge between her love for birthwork and her commitment to generational health.

Dr. Raya is a Webster-certified chiropractor with extensive training in prenatal, pediatric, and perinatal care. She believes that when parents are supported with compassion and education, families and futures grow stronger. She is currently studying to complete her (CACCP) certification with the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA).

Above all, Dr. Raya’s faith and family hold a sacred place in her heart. When she’s away from the practice, she loves reading, journaling, traveling and dreaming up new ways to support families.

She cannot wait to serve you and your family at Profound Chiropractic.
