More about us

For mothers preparing for a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean), chiropractic care can help resolve issues that may have contributed to the need for a c-section in the past.

As a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), Dr. Sarah is equipped to help women with specific, safe, and gentle chiropractic adjustments for a healthier pregnancy. Our treatment room is equipped with a chiropractic table and special pillows that adapt to provide comfortable positions for your ever-changing body.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is vital to assist the normal physiological function of both mother and baby in pregnancy and birth.  There are three main reasons why chiropractic should be a part of every pregnancy:

  1. Regular chiropractic care helps provide structural balance and stability for the mother, resulting in a more comfortable pregnancy.  It reduces interference to the mother’s nervous system, which coordinates all of the systems and functions in her body as well as the baby’s development.
  2. Research studies have proven that pregnant mothers who receive chiropractic care during pregnancy tend to have a shorter labor with less medical intervention.  Chiropractic adjustments prepare the pelvis for an easier pregnancy and birth and reduce or remove tensions on the ligaments that support the uterus, allowing for a safer and easier birth and decreasing the potential for dystocia (delayed birth) and interventions (such as emergency c-sections).
  3. Chiropractic care can help to create a healthier and more comfortable in-utero environment for the newborn.  Creating more room in the uterus allows the baby to develop without restrictions to its forming skeletal structures, spine, and cranium, and allows the baby room to move into the best possible position for birth.

Just as chiropractic care will help your body adapt to the changes of pregnancy, so will it assist your body in recovering from those changes during the postpartum period.  Just because your pregnancy is over doesn’t mean your body will automatically bounce back to its pre-pregnancy state.  Your body has produced a hormone called relaxin to soften your ligaments and open your joints. Your pelvis is then able to open wide and birth your baby. This softness allows your joints to become misaligned more easily.  Continuing chiropractic care after pregnancy will help your body re-align, ease back into your “new normal,” and adapt to the new challenges motherhood brings.

A healthy, active, involved, and informed mother is far more likely to have a vital, natural pregnancy and birth.  We seek to equip our pregnant practice members with a whole, vitalistic approach to ensure they have the tools to give themselves and their babies the best chance at having a healthy birth.  We seek to work supportively and cooperatively alongside your midwife, doula, and obstetrician to ensure that you have a great team around you.  Dr. Sarah wants to help you have the birth experience you desire.

Samantha Trosky, Reiki Master and Chios Energy Master

Sam’s son, Andrew, was her biggest inspiration for becoming an energy healer. Andrew has high-functioning Autism, ADHD, mood disorders, behaviorial disorders, and a rare seizure disorder that can cause memory loss for hours or even days. Sam met healers from the Chios Energy Healing School in Chicago while looking for alternative treatment options, and after Andrew’s first Chios session he was drastically calmer and more well-behaved. It was this positive change in her son’s health that inspired Sam to learn Chios Energy Healing so that she could help more children like her son, and soon after added Reiki to her healing skills.
