C-section and primary c-section rate: The c-section rates above reflect the number of women beginning labor at home who transport to the hospital and ultimately have a cesarean birth.
VBAC rate: VBAC success rate is 80%. This reflects the percent of women who have had a prior cesarean birth and who birth vaginally, either at home or after transport in the hospital. This rate is not directly comparable to VBAC rates for Chicago-area hospitals because it does not include any women who had a prior c-section and who opted for a c-section with this pregnancy or who did not qualify for a trial of labor.
Epidural rate: No epidurals are offered at home. The epidural rate reported above reflects the number of patients who begin labor at home but transport to the hospital in labor and end up having an epidural.
Induction/augmentation rate: No medical inductions are undertaken at home. The induction rate reflects transports to the hospital for induction primarily for premature rupture of membranes and failure to progress.
“I’ve been doing home births as a primary midwife since 1995 and before that as an assistant since 1990. I am passionate about protecting the right of women to give birth with no or minimal intervention, but with the safeguard of trained and watchful attendants. Giving birth is some of the hardest yet most rewarding work a woman can do. As you prepare to add a new family member to your life, remember that giving birth is doable! Medicalizing what is primarily a family event usually causes some problems (that being said, when intervention is warranted, I’m very glad it is available.) Please give me a call for a free consultation.”

About 10% of mothers who begin labor will end up transporting to the hospital. Transport is seldom emergent.
