CDH maternity nurses offer one-on-one breastfeeding support during your hospital stay. Staff board-certified lactation consultants can help with more complex breastfeeding challenges. Phone counseling is available after you leave the hospital.
Formula supplementation for the breastfeeding infant
will not be offered unless (1) medically indicated with
a physician order, (2) if preferred by the mother after
giving informed consent or (3) exclusive breastfeeding is

Maternal Fetal Medicine: Maternal fetal medicine specialists on staff help to care for you if you have risk factors or develop complications during pregnancy.
Neonatalogist: A neonatologist is on-site 24/7 for newborns needing special care.
Level III NICU: The Level III NICU is staffed by board-certified pediatric specialists from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago to care for infants with special needs.
You will have an individual room in the NICU where you can bond with your baby. Each room has controls for lighting, temperature and music. The NICU is locked and secured at all times.

Comprehensive prenatal care: In addition to meeting your needs for prenatal care, we offer a host of perinatal resources including programs and classes to keep you healthy, informed and prepared for pregnancy, childbirth and parenthood. For peace of mind, maternal-fetal specialists are here to care for any complications that arise. The Maternal-Fetal Medicine team offers services for added assurance of mother-baby well-being during pregnancy. Certified diabetes educators will help you control issues related to gestational diabetes.
A personal childbirth plan: Our specialists want to create a personal, memorable childbirth experience for you and your family. As your delivery draws near, consider your preferences for family participation, pain management and breastfeeding so your care team can help provide the experience that’s right for you. Please complete your delivery registration before your seventh month of pregnancy. To reserve your admission, complete your pre-registration information online.
High-comfort, high-tech birthing suites: When it’s time for your baby’s arrival, you’ll settle into a private, homelike labor-delivery-recovery suite equipped with the latest technology. Experienced nurses will care for and support you during childbirth. Maternal-fetal specialists are on-site to help handle any complications.
Pain management options: During labor, you’ll have a variety of pain-relief options, including natural methods as well as medications and anesthesia (typically an epidural) administered by anesthesiologists, who are available on-site 24/7.
Special deliveries: We are fully prepared to handle multiple births (such as twins, triplets or quadruplets) and emergency C-section deliveries. In addition, Central DuPage Hospital has a Level III Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). It is staffed by more than 140 board-certified pediatric specialists from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago*.
Excellent nursing care: After your baby is born, you’ll move to a private suite. A nurse will care for you and your baby. They can answer any questions, teach you about newborns and their care, and connect you with resources.
Personal choices, advanced resources: We encourage you to have your baby stay with you in your room. All of your baby’s care can be provided in your room, and you may participate in the care as much as you wish. Should you require some quiet time to rest and recover from delivery, the nursery is available 24/7 to provide care for your baby. Your nurse will be able to assist you with any of your individual needs. You may have visitors any time of the day or night, or you can also choose to limit your visitors. Simply let your mother-baby nurse know your preference.
Breastfeeding and lactation support: Certified lactation consultants are here to provide education, resources and ongoing support to help you have a successful breastfeeding experience. Learn about our lactation services and infant feeding policy.
Infant security: We take the safety of you and your family seriously. The entrances to all units are secured. All babies wear tamper-proof bracelets that help keep them safe. We use surveillance equipment to monitor all units of the hospital. In addition, we have a trained Security team.
A beautiful picture of your baby: To capture those first precious moments with your baby, Central DuPage Hospital arranges for professional photos of your newborn to be taken in the comfort of your hospital room.
Level III NICU: Our Level III (NICU) is staffed with physicians from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago*, thanks to a unique affiliation between Central DuPage Hospital and Lurie Children’s. You and your baby have convenient access to more than 140 board-certified pediatric specialists who use the latest child-specific equipment, technology and techniques to treat infants with special needs related to premature birth, low birth weight and other medical conditions.

Your partner or support person can stay overnight with you during labor and delivery.
Visitors are allowed 24/7 but you can also limit visitors by letting your mother-baby nurse know your preference. Children younger than 12 are not allowed to visit unless they are a sibling of the baby.
