Family-centered care: At Northwestern Medicine Palos Hospital, we consider it a privilege to be a part of your baby’s birth day. Our philosophy of care is family-centered. From the moment of birth, we give parents every opportunity to bond with their infant and form the beginnings of a close family connection. In our birthing center, you will stay in the same birthing suite throughout your hospital stay.
Labor and Delivery Specialists and Care Centers: The birth of a child is not only a special time in a woman’s life, it’s also a major medical event. Northwestern Medicine Maternity Services are designed to surround you with comfort—as well as take care of all your medical needs and those of your baby.
From the moment you arrive, you and your family will be surrounded by the support of distinguished physicians, highly trained nurses and other care providers who are committed to your baby’s well-being and your family’s finest birthing experience.
Each birthing suite offers a home-like setting, yet discreetly tucked away are the latest tools for pain management, fetal monitoring and maternal care.
High-comfort, high-tech birthing suites: When it’s time for your baby’s arrival, you’ll settle in to a private, home-like labor-delivery-recovery suite equipped with the latest technology. Experienced labor and delivery nurses offer the care and support you need through every stage of childbirth, and maternal–fetal specialists are standing by to handle any complications.
Skilled care for special deliveries: Northwestern Medicine specialists are fully prepared to care for multiple births (such as twins, triplets or quads) and emergency cesarean deliveries. For your safety and that of your baby, a neonatologist is present during a cesarean delivery. An obstetrician and anesthesiologist are available 24/7 to meet your needs.
24-Hour Neonatologist Coverage: Every parent hopes for a normal, full-term birth for their child. Some infants, however, may need more help in their first moments to get off to a strong start. That’s when our neonatologists step in.
The first moments after birth can be critical for stabilizing an infant who is premature or fragile. At Northwestern Medicine, we are committed to having board-certified neonatologists in the hospital 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They perform the following critically important services:
- Attending births deemed high-risk or at the request of an obstetrician
- Caring for infants in the Level II intermediate care nursery
- Performing infant exams for healthy, full-term infants at the request of a pediatrician or hospital staff
Lactation Counseling and Support: Recognizing the significant health benefits that breastfeeding provides to mothers and babies, Palos Hospital supports and advocates for breastfeeding mothers and their babies. International Board Certified Lactation Consultants are available before and after your delivery to provide you with the education and skills needed to support your breastfeeding choices. They focus on the needs of the couple and are committed to promoting positive bonding experiences through professional and individualized education and support.
Palos Hospital offers ongoing guidance following discharge through the Nursing Moms Network where mothers share their experiences and receive education and support from experienced maternal child health nurses and lactation consultants.
