• A breastfeeding and maternity care policy that guides clinical practice
• Staff receive evidence-based education about breastfeeding
• Pregnant mothers are educated about breastfeeding benefits and management
• Breastfeeding assistance is given within one hour of birth
• Mothers are assisted to maintain lactation if separated from their baby

High risk care: The Family Birthplace at Presence Saint Joseph is a Level III Perinatal Facility. Care teams have the expertise to care for high-risk mothers, including women of advanced maternal age, women with co-existing medical conditions and women carrying multiples.

Level III NICU: The Level III NICU provides a high level of care for critically ill newborns with the most complex needs, including babies:

• As young as 23 weeks
• Who have low birth weight or congenital abnormalities
• Who require ventilator assistance, surgery and care for other medical complications

24-hour access to specialists: Childbirth specialists are in-house around the clock, including:

• Specially trained obstetricians
• Maternal-fetal specialists
• Anesthesiologists
• Neonatologists (high-risk newborn specialists)
• Pediatricians
• Respiratory and physical therapists for neonatal care in the NICU

LDRP: The hospital offers labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum (LDRP) suites, so you can stay in the same room with your new baby throughout your stay.

Amenities: Each room has:

• A full, private bathroom with shower;
• Flat-screen TV with an English/Spanish channel for newborn education.

Safety and security: Controlled-access units, monitoring devices and programs ensure safety throughout the Family Birthplace.
