MATERNITY CARE OVERVIEW

We’re the #1 Place to Start a Family in Will County!

When you start your family at Silver Cross, you’re in good company! In fact, more families choose our Birthing Center than any other hospital in Will County.

That’s because we’ve created a very unique place for your special arrival—the Women and Infant Services Birthing Center, where you and your family are at the center of everything we do. From the personal attention of our highly trained staff to the comfort and luxury of our private mother-baby suites, we’ve designed it with you in mind.

Special Touches Designed with Your Comfort in Mind:  Everything’s ready for you from the moment you arrive—even complimentary valet parking and shuttle service.

Each of our 12 birthing suites has soft lighting and soothing décor designed to put you at ease with thoughtful touches you’ll appreciate. The moment you walk in, you’ll feel at home. Every private birthing suite has an easily adjustable labor bed and labor ball available.

Other amenities like private bathrooms with showers and immersion tubs, blanket warmers, in-room refrigerators, DVD players and a gift bag add to your comfort.

What’s more, each room has wireless internet access, a 30″ flat screen TV system, and family-friendly décor. There’s also a comfortable sofa-sleeper so family members can stay around the clock.

We offer a variety of pain relief methods including breathing techniques, medications, and epidurals provided by an anesthesiologist available in-house 24 hours a day.

Everything for Your Peace of Mind: Obstetrician/gynecologists and our experienced team are on alert to help at any time. In fact, there is an obstetrician/gynecologist in-house 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Upon your arrival, you’ll be “partnered” with a specially trained obstetrical nurse certified in electronic fetal monitoring who’ll assist you through delivery. Our new unit also features mother/baby couplet care, which means that the same experienced nurse will care for both mother and baby until it is time to go home.

This ensures continuity in care and improved communication between the patient, family, nursing staff and physicians. At Silver Cross, we also have several certified lactation consultants available for support to new mom’s who choose to breastfeed their babies. They offer education and support before and after delivery as well as when you return home.

Cesarean Suite: While the birthing suites are fully equipped for labor, delivery, and recovery, some deliveries require surgery. And that’s why we have 3 complete Cesarean suites in our Birthing Center.

Telemedicine: For your added peace of mind, another feature offered by the Silver Cross Birthing Center is Baby Care Connect PDF and Baby Care Connect-Spanish PDF, which is a telemedicine program in conjunction with the Lurie Children’s cardiologists. Telemedicine is a cutting-edge diagnostic tool that allows pediatric cardiology specialists to analyze a baby’s echocardiogram in real-time through a video linkage with Silver Cross.

Safe, Secure Environment:  We have a state-of-the-art infant security system along with secured entrances to the Birthing Center to give you peace of mind.

Childbirth Education: We offer a variety of childbirth education programs including:

  • Birthing Center Tours
  • Breastfeeding Class
  • Prepared Childbirth Class
  • Registration for childbirth classes is required online.

Outpatient Breastfeeding Clinic:  Schedule a private, one-hour consultation with a Board-Certified Lactation Consultant to discuss your breastfeeding concerns such as if your baby is getting enough food, latching on properly, eating often enough, or if you are experiencing engorgement/breast issues or difficulty with pumping. This service requires an order from your physician and will be scheduled through Silver Cross Hospital Central Scheduling. Your insurance will be billed for the visit. Clinic occurs on Mondays and Thursdays.

For more information, call (815) 300-7321, or 815-300-7076 to schedule.

Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit:  To ensure babies with special needs can receive all the care they need under one roof – and keep families together close to home – Silver Cross Hospital is pleased to present the Amy, Matthew & Jay Vana Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Adjacent to our Women and Infant Services Birthing Center, the NICU features 24 private, single-family rooms. It’s modeled after, staffed by the neonatal experts in the NICU of Ann & Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and boasts the very latest technology to care for infants:

  • NICU Reception DeskBorn before 30 weeks’ gestational age
  • Born with birth defects, infections, breathing difficulties or other high-risk conditions
  • Born at other nearby hospitals who need highly specialized care

Equipped to Care for Sick Newborns: Although birth can present unexpected complications, there’s nothing our Silver Cross care teams aren’t prepared to handle. In fact, not only is our NICU modeled after Lurie’s NICU, it’s also staffed by Lurie neonatologists around the clock and equipped to care for newborns who require the most advanced treatment, including assisted ventilation, neonatal surgery, nitric oxide therapy, and subspecialty diagnosis, consultation and treatment for complex congenital anomalies. What’s more, all nurses, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, therapists, and lactation consultants have specialized training to provide care in our NICU.
