Maternity Care Overview

[includes input from Clinical Director]

The Maternity Center: Our Maternity Center fosters a nurturing environment that supports new families and promotes patient and newborn safety. We offer private labor and delivery rooms and a Level II nursery. While designed to feel like home, each patient room has all of the necessary medical equipment with a clinical team ready to care for each new mother and her baby.”

“Obstetrical anesthesiologists manage patient pain to assure as comfortable a delivery experience as possible.” “Family involvement and bonding is the Maternity Center’s goal, and rooming-in is encouraged.”

Our midwives: At Saint Anthony Hospital, care is led by our masters-prepared Certified Nurse Midwives, backed up by our staff obstetricians and family practitioners. The midwives are experienced health care practitioners dedicated to serving the women of our community and providing the highest level of care.  They have based their woman-centered practice on the philosophy that health care should be safe and satisfying in a welcoming environment. The midwives closely collaborate with physicians to provide options for a personalized birth experience, along with providing support and encouragement during the labor and delivery process. They manage the Fetal Non-Stress (NST) Clinic located in the Maternity Center unit, and are also on call 24/7 and triage all patients upon arrival.”

C-section rates:  Saint Anthony Hospital has among the lowest rates of cesarean birth in the Chicago area. “While C-section can be a lifesaving procedure, it also poses risks to mother and baby, both immediate and long-term.”

“New Child Safety Program: Safety is one of our top priorities here at the Saint Anthony Hospital Maternity Center. That is why we have started the New Child Safety Program. We want to help provide extra care for your extra special delivery.

Every woman who delivers at our Maternity Center will receive a free, highly-rated car seat and a few additional necessities for your newborn. Each seat will be specially installed upon discharge by one of our certified passenger safety technicians.”
