Dedicated CRNA for epidural during daytime hours.
A sleeper sofa in each room allows your support person to stay overnight.
During labor: There are no visiting hour limitations for adults.
Two support people are allowed in the patient room.
A doula is allowed in addition to your other two support people.
During postpartum recovery: We welcome visitors between 9am – 9pm.
Up to four visitors are allowed, including siblings and children age 12 and up. One support person may stay overnight.
Visitor access may be restricted for safety, infection control, or other health-related reasons. Restrictions will be communicated clearly to patients and families.
Nurses are trained to support lactation and are available 24/7 for breastfeeding support.
MFM consultation available at the Perinatal Center.

Childbirth is a very personal experience for the entire family. At the University of Chicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial, our team offers comprehensive and compassionate care, as well as a variety of services to support our Southland newborns and families.
Our Family Birth Center – Harvey offers:
- 23 private labor and postpartum suites
- Two surgical suites
- A Level 2E Special Care Nursery, where our team provides advanced care for critically ill and premature infants
- Dedicated Ob triage rooms
- Private postpartum rooms
Labor & Delivery Suites
Our private labor and delivery suites were designed with you in mind, encouraging natural movement to help you manage pain, position your baby for birth, and feel supported as your labor progresses.
Labor and Birth Aids: The Family Birth Center – Harvey is equipped with supportive tools to help make your labor as comfortable and smooth as possible, including:
- Birthing balls to help with movement and positioning
- Peanut balls to assist with optimal baby positioning
Our experienced specialists will be by your side, offering personalized guidance to help your labor progress while keeping you comfortable and confident every step of the way.
Surgical Suites and Special Care Nursery: Our team is prepared to support birthing parents and newborns who need advanced care. If a cesarean delivery (C-section) is the best option for you and your baby, our fully equipped surgical suites offer a safe, compassionate environment for your personalized childbirth experience.
Additionally, with our Level 2E nursery close by, the Family Birth Center – Harvey offers streamlined access to comprehensive neonatal care for premature infants and for full-term newborns who require specialized support. The Level 2E designation reflects our advanced monitoring capabilities and our team’s expertise in managing complex health needs, such as ventilator support and high-risk newborn care.

Ingalls Hospital’s birthing unit includes two surgical suites for cesarean deliveries.
VBAC+2 can be an option if documentation of prior scar is available, depending on physician preference.
