Acupuncture for postpartum depression

Recent studies have also shown promising results in using acupuncture for depression during and after pregnancy. Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) incorporate thousands of years of experience in treating depression. Not only can they help to alleviate the signs and symptoms accompanying depression, they can address the root cause(s) and underlying imbalances that have contributed to the problem, safely and naturally.

Acupuncturists are aware of the powerful interplay between our body and emotions, and that the two are inseparable. When we experience emotional upset, our physiological state may become disrupted. Likewise, when we experience physical problems, our emotions can become greatly affected.

To help you address your postpartum depression, we will develop a unique treatment plan tailored to your specific symptoms and signs. The goals of such a plan will be to activate the movement of Qi throughout the entire body, as well as to address the root cause(s) and underlying imbalances. By treating the body as a whole and unique organism, your acupuncturist will support you in your recovery from illness and disease, moving you toward health and happiness.

What Sets Us Apart?
  • We get to know YOU and develop a deep knowledge of your health. At every session, we listen with caring and compassion. We do not rush your session.

  • We provide recommendations for actions that you can take outside of the treatment room to expedite your healing and maintain long-term health.
  • We focus on wellness and prevention, working with you to identify and treat symptoms early before chronic issues develop.
  • We believe in the integration of traditional and Western medicine, and will collaborate with other health providers to use the best from all disciplines to address your symptoms and their root cause.

TRAINING & CERTIFICATIONS
About me

After insomnia started impacting my work and personal life in 2011, I began a search to find a solution other than prescription medication. At the insistence of a very persistent (at times annoyingly so) friend, I tried acupuncture. I thought there was no way that someone sticking needles in me would help.

After my first session, I was able to fall asleep more easily, but still had difficulty staying asleep. After the second session, I could sleep through the night without any medication!  I experienced several other “side effects” from the acupuncture including mental clarity, less stress, more energy, and an improvement in a digestive issue that had plagued me since high school. After a few months of weekly sessions, my acupuncturist had corrected my irregular menstrual cycle – another issue that had plagued me since high school (and which my general practitioner had “fixed” by putting me on birth control).

Needless to say, I was hooked and decided to go to school and become an acupuncturist myself. I recently founded Northshore Acupuncture Center to help others feel better and live better.
