Breastfeeding support

Advocate Trinity Hospital is proud to be the first hospital in Chicago – and now one of only five – to be designated Baby-Friendly, a worldwide breastfeeding quality improvement project created by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The designation recognizes the highest level of breastfeeding support a hospital can offer to moms and babies. For more information about the Baby-Friendly designation or our breastfeeding services, call 773-967-5250.

Why is breastfeeding important?

Providing infants with human milk gives them the most complete nutrition possible. Scientific studies have shown that breastfed children have far fewer and less serious illnesses – including a reduced risk of SIDS, childhood cancers and diabetes – than those who never received breast milk.

Advanced treatments for complex issues

Advocate Trinity Hospital is equipped to provide the treatment moms and babies need when facing a high-risk pregnancy or complications. Our services include:

  • Care for expectant mothers with diabetes, fibroids, heart disorders and other chronic or emergency conditions.
  • State-of-the-art monitoring and testing, including fetal monitoring, ultrasound, amniocentesis, oxytocin challenge testing (OCT) and nonstress testing (NST).
  • 1:1 nurse-patient ratio that provides the best delivery support for high-risk mothers.
  • Level II plus special care nursery that provides advanced care for critically ill or premature babies. Should more complex medical needs arise, we’re backed by the resources of Advocate Children’s Hospital, which offers the highest level of neonatal and pediatric care available in the Chicago area.
  • Around-the-clock availability of neonatologists with advanced training in the care and treatment of critically ill or premature infants.”
